Default GC coilover and upper mount review

So I finally got my stuff and had my cousin install it all on saturday. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or just need to get used to it.

First, what I don't like:

The rear coilovers can't go down as much as I want them to. He didn't have tools to cut the cup so I had to turn the perch up enough to allow it to sit right. I'm thinking about either cutting the cup or getting koni yellows for the rear.

This isn't GC's fault, but my cousin left the bump stops out.

He said he thought I wanted to be able to slam it but we couldnt do that anyway because of the rear problem. so yeah, it was all too hot outside and too late once everything was put back together. I'll make him do it this weekend or something haha.

What I do like:

Love the stiffness of the springs. Turns feel soooo much better now compared to the sportlines. Also, I know it can go as low as I want it to be. Just need to do a little custom work.

If I could just drop the back another .5" and get the bump stops back in there so I don't get chest pains every time I hit a bump, I think I'd be great.

Anyway, right now I'm giving both a and .

I'll probably be back with pics and more when I get the rear fixed and bump stops back in.

PEACE.

The cup that is mounted on the rear shocks for a spring to sit in. To get maximum lowering the coilover companies recommend cutting it.

That pic I slammed it as low as I can on the GC's. I'm on AGX's. What shocks are you on?

i have GC's and koni yellows (on the stock perch setting).. i love them as well. but i dont understand what you mean by not being able to make the rear go as low as you want.. my car is pretty slammed (almost as much as the red one above.. i get less than one finger in each fender) and i can still lower both the front and rear a lot more if i wanted to. you do know that the GC sleeve that's bigger, with more thread, goes on the rear dont you? and the smaller on the front. and 96dc2, you got any more pics of your car? its nice bro, good job.

edit: 96dc2, that's on the lowest setting on both front and rear on the GC's? wow. i think i could go even lower than that, while still keeping my koni's on the stock perch setting.

but the real question is...why the hell would you want it that low? If you want it dropped like that, go bags, or else raise it up so it's driveable.

i probably sound retarded with all this, but, i'm not a ricer who's out to have the most slammed car out there. I just wanna get rid of the gap. i think my best bet is to go back to 55 series tires.

also, i just called my cousin and i think he installed them wrong (back in front, front in back). too much stress today from work to even try and comprehend all that right now. i'm gonna check on it when i get home.

thanks for all the help guys. if you have anymore usefull info please fill me in.

oh yeah, i got about a 1.5 finger gap in front, 2 in the back.

thanks spd18 for shedding the light on the back/front issue. that's prolly why i hit so hard up front, rear spring rates.

The height of the perch doesn't affect how LOW you can go, it only affects how HIGH you can go.

Here is another pic.

The pics are old, though, I think over 6 months.

Yes that's the lowest on both.

niiiiiiice.

yeah, i figured the sleeve height wouldn't matter, but the spring rate would.

I was looking into getting some of these but I know that your springs need to have an inner diameter of 2.5 inches. Has anyone tried these GC upper mounts with any type of lowering spring other than coilovers? I want to get them really bad but dont know the diameter of the 5zigen springs that are currently on my car.

although i dont have dc2, i do iave the gc mounts on my hatch. they wont realy do much for lowering the car. they are designed to give u more shock thavel. so when ur low, the shock doesnt bottom out and hit the bumpstop. i was havon trouble with this up front so i picked up a set for about $70. they cured my problem and now if om not carefull ill hit the uca on the inner fender. but thats just goofey ef sus geometry. if u do a search on the autox.rr forum under "im close to my bumpstops", ull find my thread on them.

I honestly think you installed the spings backwards.

I have no problems making the car car sit on the ground. The rears can tuck under the fender with an additional 2.5inches left to go.

i'm on 205-45-16

remember, the bigger spring goes in the front.

Nice review. I am also thinking about getting GC's to go with my AGX's. The stock spring rate they offer is 380f/280r. Are these rates too stiff for my AGX's to handle and if so what spring rates do you recommend (I'm thinking 350f/300r)?

the one thing to remember is the lower you are the shorter your shocks will last.

i have GC's and Bilstiens and that is the best ride i have had yet.

i had to raise it up to get the best ride out of the set up. i am a road racer with my car and unless i wanted to buy a full race setup i had to raise the car up to get full potential out of the set up
