Default gauge cluster differences?

Swapped a GS-R motor in my 95 OBD1 LS. Looking for a gauge cluster to put in.

Do gauge clusters follow body models (94-97 vs 98-01) as people commonly think they do, with all the mis-conceptions on the internet?

Or do the gauge clusters follow OBD models (94-95 vs 96+)

My guess is that only 94-95 GS-R clusters will work in my car, since my GFs 97 LS has a completely different cluster than mine, and they lie in the same 'body' model (94-97)

Thanks guys! Not interested in the 'green film' trick, just wondering where they vary. I am assuming a 94-95 will plug in for sure without modifications....?

Thanks!

they follow odb models if you use a odb2 cluster in yours the gas gauge wont work. and the abs and door light are in different places.
