G2 weird timing problem
car 90 integra bone stock
For some reason I cannot get my timing set. I am following all instructions in the helms manual and I even read the timing instructions on G2IC.com.
Here's the deal the other week the bearing in my distrubutor froze so I went to the junkyard and got a new one. after replacing the distrubutor I tried to adjust the timing and even with it at full advance it would olny goto the TDC mark on the pulley. So far I have tried to adjust it at least 4 times with no luck. As far as drivabilty goes with it slightly advanced from 1-4k it hesitates and from 4-7k it pulls strong but runs hot. In the middle It hesitates all the way through to 7k and it still runs slightly hot (middle of the gauge).
Tommorow when I get a chance I am going to check to make sure everything is at TDC and pull the distrubutor and set it to #1 cyl then reinstall and try to set the timing again.

Just wild guesses...
Check to make sure your cam timing is OK.
Check to see whether your vibration damper has slipped. See if TDC on your crankshaft timing sprocket agrees with TDC on the outside of the pulleys.

Well I was planning on checking the mech. timing on the engine.
But I've been working 12 hour shifts and its kinda hard finding time.

When the engine is at TDC #1 cyl., the two alignment marks on each gear should line up, the arrows on both gears should point up, the mark on the crank pulley should align with the mark on the lower t-belt cover, and finally the mark on the lower t-belt sprocket behind the crank pulley should align with the arrow on the oil pump. Check to make sure all of these line up to ensure #1 is truly at TDC. Then pull the dist. off, make sure it's pointing to #1 (should be slightly off since the spark plug fires slightly before TDC, hence the ignition timing of 16 or 18 deg. BTDC). It should point to 1 since it can only be installed onto the intake cam one way. If you do all this and still can't get ignition timing adjusted properly, then you've got me stumped.
thanks for the long reply. Thats what I was planning on doing as soon as I get a chance. However the distrubutor can only be installed 1 way right?
The only other thing that I can think of is maybe the junkyard gave me a distrubutor from a 89 integra, but I really dont think thats the case since the distrubutor has PM6 written inside of it on several parts and since PM6 is the part code for B18A's I would assume that it is the correct part.

Well I finally got a chance to make sure everything was at TDC and sure enough the timing belt had slipped. After I put everything back at TDC I could set the timing on the engine correctly and now its running great..
Thanks for all the replies
