fuel filter problem?
my car wont start unless i push the gas rapidly while turning it over...i know the car sat for 2 years before i bought it...now its running crappy, like its being starved from gas. coudl the filter be the problem with it not running
yes it could be a clogged filter, but first listen for the "whirring" from the fuel pump when you turn the key to battery. If it whirs and then stops, good. If you let it sit for 15 minutes come back and it's not whirring and won't start, it could be the fuel pump, the main relay, or a leak in the fuel circuit (leaky injectors or a fuel line).
Also, if while you're pressing the gas to start the car and it makes a clean firing sound, like as in just punching the throttle, then it has to do with fuel, but if the noise sounds more like your exhuast is under water, then it's a problem in the coolant circuit and the sound means you're "hydrolocking" the pistons. A bad head gasket or a crack somewhere in the block could cause this. Good luck.
