Flushing the engine with MTF?
My friend did this...I recommended him not to. He changed the oil. Filled it with MTF and started it. He let it idle for 2 minutes and changed it but this time filled it with oil again.
Is this bad for the motor?

ive heard of doing this, too. and yes it is supposed to help clean out the motor, however, most honda mechanics will tell you not to because it is unstable. i think that is bull@#$% myself. you can go ahead and try it on your own car, but don't be so pissed off if something goes wrong down the road. that method is still in the experimental stages to my knowledge. if you enjoy working on cars, then by all means go ahead and take ur engine apart and clean it down piece by piece....it's kinda of relaxing lol
what kind of substance is MTF? Is it a lubricant, like oil, or is it just a cleaner....because it needs to be the same consistency as oil to keep friction and heat from building up.
i think by MTF they mean manual transmission fluid, not a specific cleaner fluid with the name mTF. But yea... i don't think i'd be doin that...
I don't think it would be detrimental to the engine. In the older teg owners guide, it recommended using 10W30 oil for the tranny. So MTF and engine oil are similar to some degree, I think nowadays, difference btn the two is that Honda MTF has different additives in it vs. engine oil. Whatever floats your friends boat...

MTF is nothing more than 90wt oil.
some newer cars (our hondas included) are running standard wt oils in their transmissions, 10w30, but for the most part, manuals still use the standard 90wt.

Wow... didn't kno that. interesting.

Often times the dealer will tell you "just use 10w30 in your transmission"... so if you can use MTF (manual tranny fluid) or oil in the transmission... it almost makes sense that you could put MTF in your motor. You won't catch me doing it tho.
Its not MTF.. Its ATF you're supposed to use. What this basically entails is pulling a vaccuum hose off the intake manifold and letting it suck up a bit of ATF. The idea is the detergents in the AFT will break up all carbon deposits in the runners and head.
You should really be careful about how much ATF to let the engine ingest. I've seen it done a number of times and the car will smoke like you wouldn't belive for about 10 minutes. Make sure your neighbor are cool with you doing this.

A guy I know did something similar with his Ford.. he put a mixture of kerosene and some other stuff I can't remember in place of oil and ran it for a few minutes. Drained it out and it came out black.
He said it worked well; claims it's an old muscle car trick or something.

I do this every 6k...... cleans internals really well.
I've heard of what Jaymar is talking about (quoted below) but not totally draining the oil and pouring in ATF... it is supposed to clean out the internals but the car will smoke like a ****....

ya its not mtf its atf, used car dealer use atf to clean the motor and it hides unwanted noises, till the customer buys it and later down the road finds noises.

Ugh! You know, if your engines are older (over 80k), it is a good idea to choose one brand and weight of oil and stick with it. When an engine starts getting high miles on it, there is no telling what will happen when you introduce fresh detergents(contained in different brands of oils) to your engine. Some of those deposits and gunk may be holding your engine together. Cleaning that stuff out or hitting your worn seals with additives they are not used to could spell REBUILD before your ready.
Valvoline MAX life or Mobile 1 and stay with it.

Uh....you do know that they make a ENGINE FLUSH for like $2-$3 right? You put it in right before an oil change, run the engine for like 5mins, drain it out and the fill in with fresh oil.

From what I know those engine flush are just 5w20 oil with lots of detergent. You can do it but they recommend only for a few minute so the oil won't get too thin and hurt your internal.
Yeah why don't just stay with one brand of oil and stick to it? Chevron Supreme and Mobil Drive Clean are good dino with good detergent.
