Default Finding the right teggie

Just sold my jeep and am craving to get a car to save on gas. I'm looking to get an integra and was wondering what would be the best bang for my buck as far as model, etc. I'm looking in the 5500 range and I'm mainly looking for an automatic and want to get one as close as stock as possible so I can do work to it and watch it grow so to speak. It's hard to come by the color white but I've been trying to find one in that color and man their hard to come by. Any suggestions from you guys as far as what exactly to look for and where would be great. This is going to be my first car and really want to do it right.

Thanks

I would look for a low milage gsr with no rust that was owned by an older person not some kid who would beat the crap out of it. But gsr's are not offered with an automatic transmission only the ls trim level is. the ls has 140 horsepower and the gsr has 170 horsepower. good luck

to be honest, if you wanna work with the car, auto isnt the way to go...
but GSRs are a nice way to start...but only come in 5spd

If you want to get better mileage get a manual LS
they're slightly better on fuel consumption in ratings, but in reality it depends on how you drive.

After I got a tune up and replaced a bunch of crap on my teg it got me 35mpg. Depending on your state 5500 can net you a really good integra.

5 speed, RS or LS hatch, low mileage is always good but I would look for the good body, [no rust, no accidents].

I also agree to find one from from a "little old lady", maybe a 4 door, stay away from any "modded" ones owned by kids, you know they have been driven hard.

I just seen a "mint" 4 door G3, [LS and one owner] with just over 100,000 on it, driven by an older couple, they are asking $3500, CDN I may buy it myself.

With any Integra, no mater how good it looks, pull the rear wheel arch lip trim, strip of rubber/plastic pushed onto folded inside edge of rear wheel arch lip, look for rust.
If you buy a Teg, remove this "trim" it is where your Integra will begin to rust. 94

Thanks for the info! I've been in contact with this lady on craigslist-

White Integra LS 129k on the dash and asking 3500obo

Seems to be in good condition and priced right.. is 129k too much for one of these? I know hondas and acuras have a reputation of lasting long but I wasn't sure how these last.

Also when I asked her about any rust she responded with "there is a little rust around the back wheel wells". Now of course I'd have to look at it for myself but since I could probably talk her down a few hundred- I wouldnt mind bringing it to my friend who owns a body shop and getting it fixed depending on how bad.

I also want to bring it to my mechanic to go through it and check it out for any defects/mechanical issues.

Anything special I should be looking for when I go to check it out?

some good things to keep an eye out for:
-check the frame/engine bay to see if it's been hit (wrinkles in the metal).
-Look for leaks on/around the motor/transmission (the valve cover gasket usually leaks and makes the head dirty).

129K is just barely broken in, [pretty low mileage for a Honda/Acura].
What year is it?

That is where an Integra will start to rust first, "the back wheel wells", not one of Honda's better ideas, if you have it fixed, make sure your body guy does not reinstall the trim pieces, better yet, have him "roll" the lip inside, it will get you another .5" of clearance for your tires and not damage the tire sidewall if it does rub. 94

It's a 99 and from what I can tell from the pictures the body looks pretty good (again need to check it out in person).. I'm meeting up with her this week hopefully and will know more then. Hopefully theres nothing wrong with it which is why I want to get it checked out. She's not sure if the timing belt was replaced so I need to check that out as well..you guys are a great help..I'll check for leaks around the motor/tranny as well.

If it's rusting then it's pretty much a goner or something?

That seems a little cheap for a '99 LS... But whatever, she just may want to get rid of it. At 129K you should replace the timing belt, especially if she can't recall doing it. But check everything, it just seems like too good of a deal. Good luck

It depends on how much rust.
If the only rust you find is a little at the rear wheel arch then it's no biggie if it is repaired right away. 94

any type of integra will be a good gas saver. it all comes down to what you want the car to have as far as options and what you plan on doing with the car.

I'm going to check it out on thursday- It's an automatic LS, no manual, sorry guys.. automatic is just more convenient for me and my mom sometimes borrows my car when I'm home if there are emergencies and she does not know how to drive standard. She said on a scale from 1-10 the rust is about a 1 and is not bad at all. Also, I want to get it checked out/inspected at a local mechanic hopefully she lets me (just want to calm my nerves as I dont want to find out down the road I purchased a problem car). Basically, I'm just going to throw some nice wheels on it and lower it and do a decent sound system- not looking for anything crazy right now.

If she does not, walk away, there is no reason she should not, unless she knows there is a problem a mechanic would find.

I would never buy a used car that I did not have a mechanic look at and would not even consider one that the seller would not let me take to a mechanic. 94
