Default Exhaust question

I bought a 90 Ls a month back and the exhaust sounds like crap. They removed the cat, and ran 2.25 pipping back to a cherry bomb and the pipping on it is like 2" It has a real raspy sound when half throttle or WOT, or until it hits 3k then it's always raspy.

I currently don't have the money to get a nice exhaust for the car so i was just wondering if the car would sound alright if i just cut the pipping right before the muffler and drive like that for right now. Then in a few months i'll get a better exhaust for it. Would it still be raspy and sound like ****? or would it be alright for now but just be loud?

I know it's stupid to cut it off and everything but i just want something that will make it sound better than it is right now until i can afford a new exhaust. Thanks in advance.

you can get custom piping done for probably in the ballpark of $125, and look in the classifieds for a used muffler of some sort (stock or aftermarket) and you might be able to piece together a decent system for about $175. if not, i say just stick it out with what you have until funds become available.

If you wanna cut the raspiness, I suggest you get a resonator for your exhaust. Getting one would cut down the noise some and give it a more low-growl, deep tone. Some people have two resonators, but it's up to you.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I am going tomorrow to get the new exhaust. I'm just going to a local shop and having them weld in a new exhaust.

My friend Pallas thought it would be fun to go ahead and cut the exhaust off so i was like sure i need a new one anyways and so we cut it right behind the mufler and it was loud as fawk. When i took it out in the country and got on it, it sounded soooo fawking loud it was ridiculous.

But anyways, sorry for the rambling there, what should i get? Just get any of their import mufflers and have them weld it in or what? I still have the 2.25" pipping so what would sound best with it, and also should i go ahead and puchase a resenator also? Thanks in advance.

you can only get so much sound change from a muffler on a 4 cyl. engine. Almost any straight-through designed muffler is going to sound the same. some will be louder than others, it depends on the diameter of the piping.

If you're not concerned with a performace aspect at all, who cares what you put on it. We can't tell you online what to put on a car that you have to drive all the time.

I understand that i was just wanting some advice, i just want something that has a nice clean sound to it and not too loud but loud enough. I don't know anything about exhaust systems that's why i was wondering what i needed to get the sound that i wanted.

Get a resonator on your new setup. I don't have one currently, and it probably sounds similar to your exhuast. Which is why I ordered a Magnaflow resonator.

i work at a muffler shop maybe this would help...to get rid of that flaky noise...keep the cat on, add a velour design glass paks that catches the air (by doing this you can get more low to mid range torque improving your 0-60 time)

Don't have a cat, i bought it with no cat. As far as putting a glass pack on the car, i prefer not to. I have never heard ANY car that sounded nice with a glass pack.
