Default Exhaust problem.

I have a stock 93 Integra with a CAI, Ceramic header, and a 2.5" straight back exhaust. No cat.

I've gone though 4 mufflers recently because i'll have a real nice deep sound for 2-3 weeks, then I get that bee's in a tin can sound and I have no idea why. A couple people told me it was cause I have no cat which I thought was wrong. Any idea's?

Thanks,
Kevin

Ya, your exhaust needs a resonator in place of the cat, even another one in your b pipe wouldn't hurt. You are blowing the baffles out of the mufflers, I had the same problem when I removed my cat. The thing is, I hate loud exhaust, so I will install a twin-loop one of these days to quiet it down a bit more, yet still have a totally free flowing exhaust.

What kind of mufflers have you used? Cheap mufflers generally degenerate in quality after time.
Also, do you have a resonator on your setup?

I have

So yeah... That's the first muffler I had, then I got that ugly sound and kept the piping had my dad bend some pipe that'll fit the axel back and welded that up with one of those cheap tin cans, that sounded decent twice, now i'm back where I started. What I thought it was was these straight through mufflers. I was gonna try a chambered one like a Flowmaster 60 series or something... but until I put my cat on it'll still make that ugly sound or?...

Thanks for the input guys.

Kevin.

My dad is bringing my car to a performance garage down the street and having the engine rebuilt, I think i'm just going to buy a whole brand new exhaust (header, good cat I guess, and catback ). What's a good performance but quiet one?

It could be the infamous b-pipe rattle. Check to make sure all the bolts in your exhaust piping are tightened down. Starting with the header bolts.

This way you can narrow the problem down.
