the 94+ tegs come stock w/ 1.8L vtec (b18c)

i don't know about "so much faster" but it has to do with the variable valve timing

There's a link in the top right, it says "Search". Not only that, but there is a crapload of info on the internet. Just search for these different engines: B17A, B18A, B18B, B18C1, B18C5. You'll find more info, specs, and how each works per application. It's a lot easier then posting up such a simple question.

You need to understand vtec... if I was you I would search that, vtec is obviously better than not but without a controller the difference would really only be noticed in third gear.

ugh.... theres alot more to it then a simple 3rd cam lobe or vtec cross. for the most part (well, basically all part) the VTEC motors have a higher c/r, better bort design, bigger ports, better head characteristics, better bottom end (for reving) better fuel/timing programs and are over all a more performance oriented motor. the LS dohc vtec is simply a workhorse made to get the job done, but can be made into an excellent motor.

now back to the VTEC. how is it mostly felt in 3rd gear? just because you're in it for a long time?? lol. i have a b16 in my DA. i run it on a pr4 (ls computer) because i'm too poor for a good ecu, but anyways, i rode around no vtec for a while, didn't mind, just needed a working car. then one day i was bored, wired vtec on a switch through a relay pack for nitrous, and what a difference! 1st gear was so amazing and it felt like the motor could finally breath.

and to answer the original question: the motor codes give away rounded displacement in liters. i.e.... b18c1 = 1.8 liter and that motor happens to be DOHC vtec. b16a = dohc vtec 1.6. and theres more than just b-series family to deal with.

so there is vtec motors over 1.7 liters, theres a few quite a bit over 1.7 liters, such as c-series and j-series 6 cylinders, and the h22 2.2 liter dohc vtec along with f-series motors.

just for fun knowledge, SOHC b-series = b20a3, came in 88-89 prelude s

c3 and c6's were later released blocks (as crate motors) in japan or were new zealand and such motors. not released in the states... and if you see one stateside, then its pretty fricken rare and you should feel blessed, but they're just the same thing as jdm b18c gsr's
