Default engine ticking

Hey. I have a 94 integra rs. Just put in new oil this morning. After I started the car up I heard tickign comming from the motor. When I rev it it gets louder/faster.

I called Murrays and asked em what it could be. the guy told me that they sell some stuff called"rizzo"- , not sure on teh spelling, and that he had the problem, on his grand am and that this stuff eliminated the noise by treating the valves and some other crap.

Could this stuff fix my problem or what else can I do?

Do not put any of that engine treatment additive crap in your engine. The owner's manual SPECIFICALLY says NOT to do anything like that.

I would recommend that you get a valve adjustment done. If that doesn't fix your problem, it is your injectors -- Hondas are known to have loud *** injectors.

it's okay to drive it...just keep the revs lower to be safe. get a valve adjustment ASAP.

I guess that all depends on how loud the ticking is. If it is just a quiet tick, I wouldn't be too concerned about it -- it is probably your injectors.

However, if it is a REALLY loud tapping noise, I would get it checked out and get a valve adjustment done.

Any idea why this would start after a oil change it were just the injectors? The valves make sense tho.

did you use a thinner oil? sometimes when you go to a thinner oil or a synthetic, the valve ticking becomes more pronounced.

The oil I took out looked alot thicker. Not 2 sure since i just baught car so i dont know what was in there. But I know i put in 3.7 in and when i drained it I only got about 2.7.

Any idea on how much a valve adjustemnt would cost and what place would be the best to do it at?

it's not a hard task to do yourself, especially w/ your engine. the vtec motors are a bit more complicated.

dealers charge $90-120 (though i've never found one who would do it for under 110)

i never measure the exact amount of oil i put in ...i always just dump in 4 quarts and make sure to change the filter...valve adjustment anywhere from 50 to 100 and if your not familiar with any trustworthy shops go to the stealership...

i wouldn't trust them. take it to the dealer, maybe they'll give you a free estimate or something. that or find a good import repair shop. it's not rocket science to adjust the valves on the B18B

put your ear to the valve cover but i would think it is the valves since u started hearing it after the oil change...what grade oil did u use? regular or synthetic? and i would not take my teg to a midas for a valve adjustment...

oldskool trick. use a wooden stick or a screwdriver and place it at the point you want to determin making a noise. put the other end to your ear, you will be able to tell ticking injectors immediately.

i paid 75 at the acura dealership. its all in the labor costs and how lazy the mechanic is.
don't forget, the motor has to be completely cooled down before the valves can be adjusted.

a little ticking is ok. mine ticked a little after i had the dealership do it. i talked to the mechanic, said it was ok. it was, i proceeded to drive the car to vancouver and back(from salt lake city) and the car ran very smooth.
you'll know if its the injectors because you'll start having other issue come up, such as fuel delivery problems.

if you followed the tip i suggested you would instantly know whether it's the injectors ticking.
