Default Engine Tapping Sound?

Hey, every time I start my car from a cold start I get this werid tapping sound from the engine. After the car is warmed up, the sound isn't there anymore. Any idea of what it might be? I'm thinking maybe a loose vavle or something? Would a valve adjustment fix this problem? Also if it helps any, I'm getting about 310miles to a tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How old is your oil, when mine gets only a half a quart low and starts tapping I know its time for a change, Honda vavle adjustments can be tricky, they can be made too tight easily trying to clear up the noise and you loose good power.

Yea... I'm guessing its an LS engine. I have a 98 GS. Yea I think I should give the car an oil change and see if that helps. I just brought the car 2 weeks ago. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Had same problem with my 92 Accord LX. It's need a valve adjustment. My question is, does having unadjusted valves damage your engine?

my girls DA has some valvetrain "chatter" too. i've also heard that valve adjustments can be tricky which is why i haven't tried to tackle that myself.

might as well do the full tune-up if you dont know the history of the car.

i would recommend getting a full 30k service done with a complete ignition tune up and valve adjust.

My car right now is at 72k. Should I do a full tune-up (timing belt, water pump, vavle adjustment, etc.)? This werid tapping sound is bugging me. I was thinking of just doing Fuel filter, Air filter, o2 sensor replaced at 75k and doing the normal full tune-up at 90k. What do you guys recommend?

is adjusting the valves on a higher mileage engine more difficult? because of valvetrain wear and whatnot? Say 160k miles?

@ 72k i would do the following if it were my car and because im **** about maintenance.

Oil Change w\ S2k filter
Transmission Fluid Change
Brake Bleed\Flush
Coolant Change
Clutch Bleed\Flush
PCV Valve
Air Filter
P.S. Fluid Flush
Spark Plugs
Dist. Cap And Rotor
Timing Belt W\all accessory belts
Replace OEM Cam Plug with STR Cam Plug
Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses
Valve Adjust (engine Cold) w\ new valve cover gasket

harder stuff:
Oil Pan Gasket (common problem)
Brake Master Cylinder (Common problem)
Clutch Master Cylinder (less common problem)

How hard is it to replace the Dist. Cap and Rotor? I've never done that before. Also I was thinking:

72k = Oil Change, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, PCV Valve
75k = Dist. Cap & Rotor, Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Cables
90k = Timing Belt, Water Pump, Coolant Change, Transmission Fluid, Cam Plug, & Vavle Adjustments

How does that time frame to do thing sound? Just got the car and don't have much cash at the moment so I'm spreading them apart. It would be great if someone can provide instructions or links to chaning the Dist. Cap and Rotor. Thanks
