my brother just purchase a 2000 gsr and his engine light turn on but i whant to find out if it comes on every time you need an oil change because it shows that it needs a oil change at 35k miles and we just purchase the car. my civic si has a maintnance light that turn red when i need a oil change.

 

If it's the Check Engine light, it's more serious than needing an oil change. Integ's have a Maintenance Required light that will blink for several seconds when a scheduled tune-up is near, and will stay on once you pass that point. There is a little blue button underneath the dash, to the right of the steering wheel, that resets the MR light. Look up under there, you'll see it. Turn the key to the last position before starting the car, and hold the button down to reset the MR light.

To reset the check engine light, first diagnose the problem by using the jumper function of the ECU. There is a terminal on the side of the ECU that you insert a paper clip into to form a 'loop', and by turning the key to the same postion as listed above, it will flash/blink a certain # of times to reveal which code you're throwing. Once you've determined the problem, fix it... if the CL light does not go away, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for 10 mins. Re-connect the battery. Start the car again WITHOUT touching the gas pedal at all, and let the car idle for an additional 10 mins or until full operating temp. Shut the car off, start it back up, and you'll be good to go. The CL light should have reset itself after, as well as the ECU. If all else fails, do a search on here or ask more ?'s... someone's bound to point you in the right direction.
