Default Engine code....again

P0420 catalytic system performing inefficiently. it came up on bank 1

could be o2 sensor....but i just replaced it with a direct fit brand new one. what else could it be...how to identify.

also: p1457 evap system. this code i thought i fixed when i got a new evap canister. i passed inspection and the CEL went off. a while later it comes back on with the same code.....what the expletive...getting to the end of my rope.

i think that means your catalytic converter is crapping out.(filled with garbage) When was that last time you got it replaced?

P0420 - Catalyst system efficiency below threshold - Problem: Catalytic Convertor or Secondary 02 sensor

Solution: More than likely your Cat if you've replaced your secondary 02 already. Do not hollow it out if you are going to go through emissions.

P1457 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected - Problem: Vacuum Connection, EVAP control canister, Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, EVAP bypass solenoid valve, EVAP two-way valve, EVAP control canister vent shut valve, Fuel Tank, EVAP purge control solenoid valve.

Solution: lots of testing....start with the obvious and check for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner, most of the time when I've seen this code it is usually the EVAP purge control solenoid valve.

Good luck!

ok yea, my gas milage now sucks too. is there a way to clean out the cat? the bank 1 o2 sensor is brand new...like 2,000 miles old. is there a way to unclog the cat, if thats the problem? i dont care about emissions, i already passed for this year
