ENGINE BOLTS FOR MY ENGINE STAND
whats up guys.. u guys know ne where i can get long bolts to hold my engine to my engine stand ? the bolts are 12x1.25 and i need really long ones . i called marshals industrial hardware and they DONT have it.. wierd.. but if u guys can tell me another place that would be sweet.. thx alot
these bolts that i need are extremely strong .. 10.. the size is 12x1.25 . hard to find bolts that are that big with that fine of thread... also i need long ones
I just put my GSR engine on a stand last week. I used two of the longer tranny bolts to bolt into the block up closer by the head (they are plenty long enough)
Down at the bottom, I used some longer bolts with nuts/washers to go all the way through the block (these are the holes where the tranny bolt goes from the engine into the tranny, so it doesnt matter if its the right thread size, as long as it can slide through. )
Some engine stands have a longer piece that the bolt has to go through. I was lucky and my engine stand (harbor freight) had pretty short pieces so the tranny bolts worked fine. If those tranny bolts arent long enough and you still can't find other bolts, i've heard of people cutting down the extension on the engine stand so that more of the bolt will reach the block.
You shouldnt need "extremely" strong bolts. heh. its just a honda motor
hope that helps some.

FYI- I work for a company called fastenal. You should never have any problem getting anything from them and there all over the place. http://www.fastenal.com, and if they don't carry it, they can find a vendor who does. If not, they even have their own manufacturing center for the real odd ****.
Where did you end up getting the bolts?
I have been everywhere looking for them too and cant seem to find them anywhere!
I have the same stand as you. The OEM tranny bolts are about 3 in too short because of the extensions.
I might try out the link in the post above, but I was hoping you might know so I dont have to wait to order online and have them shipped.
Or I just might have to cut them.
Thanks.

You don't want to use the tranny bolts anyways. You risk bending them and rendering them useless.
Ace hardware stores will have them. M12x1.25 about 90mm in length, depending....take a measurement first. Use about 1" assumed for the threading inside the block.
Then use 1/2" bolts with a nut for the two very bottom holes where the tranny bolts thread into the tranny.

Thanks for the response.
I can't remember the last time I've seen an Ace hardware around here. I already tried Kragen, Autozone, Home Depot and my father in law tried to order them through his workplace to no avail. I know someone has to make them though.

it doenst hurt, but you dont need 8.8 bolts to hold your motor on an engine stand. Look at the POS hardware the kragen thing is constructed with. Its only as strong as it weakest link and the hardware on those stands is pretty meager. But it works so there is no need to put high strength hardware attaching the motor.

ACE HARDWARE DOES NOT have it.. so dont go there because their bolts are to week.. go to a place called marshals industrial hardware.. they have the bolts u need but unfortunately not in 10 strength.. its in 8.8 which is good enough for the engine stand..i wouldnt recommend them in the real car though
.. for that u shoudl order them from HONDA

I'll be damned...........I was referred to a small mom and pop shop and they had it. They had ACE Hardware signs all over the window. WTF?!
Oh well.....thanks a bunch for tip.
