ECU did not recognize engine
Did you switch your ECU from OBDII to ODBI and the diagnostic port scanner at the smog station could not interface with your ECU because it is not OBDII compatable anymore? I (we) have no idea what you mean by the ECU did not recognize the engine.
Sorry, but I'm pretty confused myself. What I was told is that they have to connect to the ECU to check for CEL's, but it failed to connect to the motor.
i have seen this before...cannot say with 100% certainty it's the problem you have, but the time when i saw it the guy did some hack stuff and screwed up the actual port where the tool plugs in

That's a JDM ECU. It should be a OBDIIa. What year is your car?

Yes I know how to do that but the point is that the smog test station has to connect a scanner to check for CEL's, but there's a problem somewhere that's causing it not to connect.
