Default ECU code trouble

Just picked up a 1995 GSR to make a couple of bucks on.Some idiot has a 1994 LS motor in it.Car gets to about 5500 rpm and starts to act stupid, backfiring through exhaust.Tach and speedo start going crazy also.I'm getting a code of 42....Am I in Integra hell?

You sure you're not getting a Code 41 and a Code 1 (both are O2 sensor issues)? And yes, a bad O2 sensor will make your car run like **** and sputter & back fire because the O2 sensor reads the fuel/air mixture and sends a signal to the ECU to let it know if it needs more air or more fuel for the motor. If the O2 sensor is bad, then it'll throw a bad signal to the ECU and the the ECU will either put an excess amount of fuel or not enough fuel with the air coming in.

Yea man...it's kinda screwed up...getting 4 fast flashes and then 2 slow ones....code chart says it's some kinda sensor that has to do with timing in the distributor....and the other is a surge sensor under the fuse box that's under the hood.Like I said,I'm just buying it,checked the oil last night and it had almost 2 qts. to much in it.Changed the oil and that helped out a lot.

What's 'fast' & 'slow'? Do you mean long & short?

for a single code, the long flashes are always first. So 4 short flashes is code 4, then 2 long ones is code 20.

4 = CKP sensor, in the distributor
20 = ELD, built into the fusebox under the hood.

Either one or both could be loose/corroded/broken wiring connections. They don't really have to be bad sensors.

hell yea man,I'll check that out...I was thinking someone might of really screwed up some wiring somewhere.Sometimes the car will be setting there idling and it will miss a couple of times and just shut off.By the way...I looked into that thing built into the fuse-box in a haynes manual....which under the hood fuse box....the bigger one that has the back-up fuse in it ,or the smaller onr with mostly abs stuff in it?Thanx again man!!!

It's in the bigger one. Some cars (GS?) don't even have ABS so they don't have that other little one. Don't forget to check the wiring, first.

Well,I hate to say it...but I sold the beast to a younger kid in P.A..He said he was gonna try the ditributor and fuse box first...I Bought it for 1,800...put a trans in that costed 700...and installed a new stock cluch for 200....I sold it for 3,400...I made a small chunk of change on it....kinda wish I,d of kept it.Oh well, leaves more time and money for the "91 LS I'm building.
