Depending on what mods you plan on in the future, how about an aftermarket oil pump gear?

dude. Somethings GOTTA be wrong with your car. That is WAY Too low for a GS-R. Either your car has problems, or that Dyno has problems.

Try checkin your car out...

When I dynoed about 6 months ago I got 137 on a 1999 with CAI. This was on a 99 gsr with 35k.

I think mine would dyno about that much stock too. I dyno'd 146 and 116lb*ft 2 months ago with K&N RU-3130, DC 4-2-1 SS Header, and axle-back exhaust.

I need more power.

yup the numbers might be a little low... how about something as simple as a tune up and oil change? if the timing belt is slipping you will know... why water pump, do you get a strange noise? valve adjustment? any ticking noise? i would just get a tune up and check the timing and whatever to make sure its set correctly. if your dyno is low, its not low by much, only a few hp.

valve adustment, valve lash might be causing hp problems

im looking for other suggestions of why hp is so low

130's is what ls get on the dyno

You need to give us more details. Does the engine smoke at all? When was the last time you had a tuneup? Oil change? Compression numbers?

I doubt changing the timing belt is gonna give you any more HP, same for the water pump too. The valve adjustment may help though.

I beg to differ that LS's get 130s on the dyno stock, a car has an average drivetrain lose of 21% from the engine output to wheels, so I doubt heavily a LS is getting 130 exactly to the wheels when crank peak hp is only 10 more then that.

no engine smoking at all. Oil change had been about 1500 miles before run.

had compression tested by crappy honda dealership which did it when the engine was cold numbers
175 in all 4 cylinders

waterpump and timing belt are just to make sure my car doesnt blow itself up

more like 115-120 stock for LS's

as for the 137 on the stock B18C1, yes it is kinda low...i got 143whp stock form, with a VERY restrictive cat, this on a 95 GS-R with more mileage

just do a tuneup, oil change, check out the cat (maybe its slightly clogged) etc

the LS gets 120 at the wheels... the gsr should get about 140... ITR about 160

of course every car is different...

The morning my dyno was done, I replaced the oil, spark plugs and did a valve adjustment. Tranny fluid had 5k miles on it. I pulled off my bypass valve afterwards. Made the car louder, but I don't know if it made an hp difference. Here is my dyno

[Modified by vteg, 9:02 PM 4/7/2002]

BTW, I had been running synthetic for about 8k miles also.

My '95 RS with made 125.5hp and ~110tq at the wheels with 63k on the motor, a DC intake, advanced timing while sucking 88 degree ambient air and 100% humidity (raining outside at the time)... hehehe, yay for Wednesday-motors. My tq numbers seemed low to me but yours are hurting even more.

137 sounds very low for a GS-R. Your timing belt shouldn't make a difference, unless your timing belt jumped a few teeth and your timing is off... Either the belt works or it doesn't (ie, it's broken and you'd be hating life then)

BTW, might want to check on this, but I think the service interval on the timing belt is 60k. At least, that is what I was told by a Honda dealership.

My GSR made 152hp at the wheels with a Comptech ice-box and Type R exhaust.
After getting the JDM 4-1 headers, carsound cat, and Civic Type R cams, and adjustable cam gears my car made 165 at the wheels.

Later on got the RSR exhaust and a test pipe the hp's got upto 169 at the wheels.

Check your compression it could be the problem.

I need to go buy a compression tester. There was one guy on this board that had a very bad dyno with CAI, about 138. He gained like 17hp from header, cat and exhaust.

My motor should break 50k this week. Since my engine sucks, but I love my car, I will probably keep it as a commuter, and buy a toy to mod. 92 mr2 turbo, 3rd gen rx-7.

I recently did a compression check on my car and I had around ~210 at each cylinder. Is 175 still within factory limits or is there a possible problem lurking about? Just wondering? That may be your problem.

Hi,

Where is your engine timing? You can try it at ~16 degrees, and maybe 18 to see if you get more power without pinging...

Try some techron or Regane to clean out your fuel injectors.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

Make sure valve clearances are good, this can make quite a difference alone.

How are your plugs and wires?

Was this on a dynojet 248C? If not, numbers may not compare directly....

Other thoughts?
