It's a b18b that's not vtec, or are you referring to a b16a (that's vtec).

find someone that wants a b18c then tell them to give you 1000 dollars and complete the swap themselves. seriously. The engine you have is worh almost 3000 dollars and the B18B can be bought for less than a grand. I STRONGLEY SUGGEST YOU RESEARCH EVERY ASPECT OF BOTH MOTORS BEFORE YOU REACH
AN ACTUAL DECISION

I would say the easiest way to go from vtec to non vtec would be to trade heads with me.I have a 95 ls with b18b1 non vtec. i would love to have a gsr head so i can have ls-vtec,but on a more serious note i know its possible to achevie ls-vtec but if i'm not mistaken the bolt pattern on a b18c1 head is defferent from a b18,A,or B.I wish i knew for sure but i dont know much about b series motor since i just recently got my 95 ls.But i know alot about d-series.

why would you have to rev to 5k? how about shifting at 3000-3500? personally i like hittin vtec every once in a while....lets you know you are still alive haha
how about you trage your gsr for an ls and use the extra cash you get for mods if you dont like reving it out
idk about this tread

And what effect do you think swapping in a B18B will have on your shift RPM if you want to accelerate like that for daily driving? It's a Honda; if you want it to perform, drive it like you stole it.

Why change? I have an LS and i mean its a great daily driver and it has potential but a GSR motor is overall better. Also, daily driving doesnt consist of shifting at 5k and hitting vtec. I'd say keep the GSR but if you must, just find someone willing to trade. I am sure there are lots out there who will.

dude, if you feel like you have to rev to 5k to get daily driving power out of it, you'll have to rev to 6 or 7 with a b18b head to achieve the same acceleration. why would you think a head with smaller combustion chambers, lesser ports, and smaller cam profiles will accelerate better?

shifting at 3k should be fine for daily driving. 5k is a bit eccentric every time you shift. maybe you should be driving something with a sporty V8.

Maybe you can give us some reasoning, cause I see none in having to go all the way up to 5k for street driving.

My 00 gsr is always between 3k - 5k on city streets, an it hasn't made a bit of difference in mileage compared to shifting a 3k. So, I try to keep it above 3k at all times, just so the power is there when I want/need it. I figure, if I can cruise on the freeway at 4k (80 mph is 4k rpm w/ a gsr tranny), why not the street? And if you're cruising at 4k, then reving "all the way" to 5k before shifting isn't exactly much...

But if you seriously want a non-vtec car, then I will buy a GS (or LS, you name it) and straight trade you cars. I could always use the money from the sale.

you shouldn't have to keep the rpms that high to accelerate in normal traffic. plenty of people (myself included) can make it around town shifting at 3k or 3.5k. a gsr isn't a fast car, but its got enough even shifting at 3k to get around town. i had no trouble at all. maybe you're the type that hauls *** everywhere you go. i dunno. what i'm saying is most people don't have to give it that much gas to get around. maybe you should give me some reasoning behind driving the way you do.

if you're not happy with the powerband, swapping to a less performance head isn't gonna move you in a forward direction. thats just plain common sense. if you need that much power to get gas or buy groceries, maybe you should look into a more powerful car.

your better off selling your car mang.

lower insurance
lower theft appeal
lower octane
less headaches than if you were to change stuff in the engine
