down to 5k when shifting to 2nd
well when i go hard at it, il redline my car and then when ishift to second it drops to 5200. is anyone else experiencing this? is this normal or am i dropping to many rpm? just wondering
thats still in VTEC, and unless you have a different geared tranny then yes thats a normal drop for a GS-R, it's common. my friend complains about the 1-2 shift on his gs-r. if honda made these geers closer, the GS-R would def pull some better times.
after 1-2 gearshift i believe all the next shifts will land you above 5800 which is in VTEC and the shorter runners are open. so you have max power available, instead of having to climb back to 5800.

The only thing that can change where you land after you shift is how high you take the previous gear. The gear ratios and final drive (which is what determines speed vs. RPM in each gear) is the same all the time, so shifting at 8.2K in 1st will always land you at the same RPM in 2nd (whatever that may be exactly, I'm not sure).
