I know from personal experience as well. Reverse is just like any other gear. If you're accelerating (backwards or not) you're going to engage VTEC.

Around 60 mph is top in reverse. I DO know this from a retartded experience. DO NOT ATTEMPT. I did it on a very wide road, and almost lost control. This was in an LS BTW.

I've never even had the clutch all the way out in reverse. I'd wager my car hasn't traveled more than a few thousand feet in reverse.
