stock rims are usually cast steel... good wheels are usually forged to make them light and strong...

i believe forged are the best as they are made using liquid metal put in a mold, cast being next as they are cut out of a block of aluminum making it weaker

Maybe the rim part is rolled, the disk is stamped, & they're welded together. Your lower control arms & brake rotors are cast. See how much different they look vs. steel wheels?

Forged are hot-worked & cold-worked; kinda like pressed or hammered while they're hot, but not molten. 'Cut out of a block of aluminum' sounds like billet wheels. The 'block' that a machinist starts from is called a billet.

Jim Blake is right except for for forged wheels use huge presses that can weigh anywhere between 5000 to 15000 pounds to change the structure of the metal.
