Default dash light and climate control light problem

So I searched around and it seems like some people have this problem but it doesn't work completely. The problem I am having is that it works sometimes and sometimes it does not. I have to keep turning on and off the lights till it comes on and sometimes if I turn on the corner lights only it will light up but when I turn on my headlights they will go off. Does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? Fuses are good and there are no loose wires. Car is all stock with original deck. All the help will be appreciated.

MM&Y of car would help.

Is it just the dash lights or does it effect the park lights also?

How about the clock and radio readout, do they "dim" when you turn on the park/head lights?94

Oops sorry. I have a 98 integra sedan and nothing else is affected besides the dash lights and climate control lights. I notice the dash and climate control lights get dimmer with I turn on the headlights all the way. When the corner lights are on they look a little brighter but not much.

Something is causing a change in the voltage system. Usually if lights get dimmer when another accessory is engaged it is usually the sign of an alternator going out (it can no longer keep charging at the required voltage) You can try replacing the brushes inside the alternator for a cheaper alternative than replacing the entire unit.

wow really? do you think that is whats causing the dash lights from going in and out? I also noticed if my dash lights are not on when my headlights are on and they only come on when the corner lights are on, I would move the switch right in between on and off and back on again then it would come on again. If that makes any sense..

No, I don't think it is then. I thought you said they were fading when you turn the lights on.

It sounds more like a connection issue between the switches. Follow the stalk down and clean the contacts. Clean all the connectors, especcially the ones behind the corner lights, they can corrode easily.

I was kind of thinking the same thing but sometimes that only works. Sometimes the dash light does not come on at all even if it is only the parking lights that are on. It first started like that and today was actually the day where I was able to kind of play with the switch to have them come on.

if it were a problem with the switch, it wouldn't be isolated to just dash lights and climate control. park, head and taillights wouldn't be working either.
when the dash and climate control lights aren't illuminating, do the head, tail and park lights work?

Yes everything else still works even though the dash and climate does not

yes. i know. but you have to check that the circuit is getting power.
i'd probably pull the fuse and run your test light in line with the circuit

my bad. this is a 98. it's fuse 25 under dash 7.5amp. if you run the test light in line with the circuit when the problem occurs with key on and the light does not illuminate, try with test light lead on the power side of the fuse, grounded to chassis. this will tell you if the circuit is receiving power at the under dash fuse panel and whether or not the circuit is able to move that power

So I haven't had a chance to check the power on that fuse yet but I just found out my bumper lights and tail lights do not work when my dash lights are out. I"m sure they changes a lot so anyone have any ideas?

Ditto that^^^ replace the Combination Light Switch, but not before testing the red/green lead coming from the CLS, if there is no power on it when the park/head light switch is on, replace the switch, if there is power on it, test the fuses while they are still plugged into the fuse box. 94
