Default daily driven question

so ive sat here for about 2 hours now reading up on info between superchargers and turbos on a gsr. personally i just want more power and lost interest of going n/a. my friend had a gsr with a turbo on it and it was awesome, but as far as reliability on my 00 GSR w. 48k, whats the best bang for my buck the JRSC or a turbo kit? If turbo kit what is the best streetable kit for the price?

Reliability is a very vague term. If you build your setup correctly and tune it correctly, then it will be reliable.

Turbo is a good choice.

If you want the most streetable and easy kit, a greddy kit would probbaly suit you best.
theyre carb legal so you dont have to worry about any of that mess.
Theyre not exactly the most powerful kit out there, but theyll add a nice amount of power, and since this is just a daily driver you dont need it to be unbelievably fast.

whats the deal with the greddy kits not coming with FMIC's and BOVs? can you even run the kits with out them?

of course. You'll just get hotter intake temps and a little compressor surge. I'd get a cheap BOV and intercooler just for the sake, but you can run without them GReddy kits are the most reliable out there. Keep reading up...knowledge is power. The more you read the more you'll realize that turbo is the way to go and you'll be happier. Be prepared to spend a lot though

the greddy kit is carb legal only because it has no FMIC.

how do you run them without the intercoolers, it kinda defeats the purpose of a turbo kit with out drawing in all the air through the intercooler, what takes its place a pipe that connects the where the cooler should be?

ummmm, you do understand how an intercooler works right? It's a pressurized.....well if you don't get it search on howstuffworks.com or somthin.

And yes it would be replaced just by straight pipe.

no no i understand it, i just think it is pointless to have a kit w/o the intercooler, but as said before that is the only way they could have it carb legal

wtf, it doesnt defeat the purpose. Cooler intake temps are good for the reason cold air can hold more oxygen. Were talking on the molecule level, very tiny percentage of power loss when you consider you have pressureized intake... Besdies, going greddy youll probably only boost like 10psi, for daily purposes, which with being a small turbo, wont give off heat like a t3/4.

well a non-intercooled set-up is only supposed to be good for about 6psi before intake temps come into play with detonation. IMHO I think a intercooler is a wise investment on a FI car. Also a smaller turbo will give off more heat than a larger on at the same PSI since the smaller will have to spin quicker than the larger to pressurize the same volume of air. More work for the smaller. But neadless to say both will get hot due to exhaust gases

besides the intercooler what else would be needed to run the greddy kit for daily use, just an exhuast and an afc?

Hmm....you're not understanding what people are telling you. Describe "daily use." What they give you will allow you to drive daily. The more power you want to make, the more reliable your tuning has to be, and the more additions (such as intercooler, BOV, management, etc) that you will need.

How much power do you want to make? Daily driven can mean anything. I was making over 400hp daily. That was my daily driver.

ok so i guess i am just worried about takin the car on a vacation with the kit on there and being worried about it breaking, but as far as daily useage, i mean like a 3 mile commute each way to work then some fun driving here and there. i'm not looking for insane numbers but i would like a nice boost in power.

I can't stress this enough. Unless you REALLY know how to work on a car correctly, as soon as we start adding extra parts, boosting it (safely), it takes away the reliability.

If you want a fast, reliable car, buy a car just like that.
