Cylinder position sensor
so yesterday i started the teg ..im like WTF!!..code reads 9 (no 1 cylinder position sensor) after some searching i find out this is in the dizzy so i opened it up today and found a few small copper filings that ive read about.
N e one knows what could have caused this i know i have to replace the distributor but it will be a while before i can source one.....(parts are hard to get down here have to import) still starts fine and drives ok.. question is is it safe to drive ie it wont quit on me at some point?
TIA
BTW its a 91 integra XSI

The distributor shaft bearing is falling apart. Metal dust gets in where those sensors are & messes 'em up.
Clean out the inside of the distributor, especially around the magnetic sensors that read the toothed wheels. Maybe work some lubrication into the shaft bearing??
At this point nobody can promise how long it'll last. You gotta guess that for yourself. Don't waste too much time before ordering it.

had the same problem not too long ago. eventually the distributor caused a grip of performance-related issues, though you may not experience any yet. my advice: get a new one asap. if it helps, i bought mine from DistributorKing.com
, for a pretty good price and have been satisified with it thus far.

i am throwing the same code. the car drives fine. according to the helms, it said to replace the ICM (ignition control module). i ran all the tests too and it lead to that. didn't mention anything about replacing the whole distributor.
So yours was the ICM, but he said there's metal filings in there. That sure sounds like the distributor shaft bearing. But I can't be sure without seeing it firsthand.

I'd clean the metal filings out of there & order a new distributor. Like yesterday. If you have to use it for short trips, open up the distributor again & see how quickly it fills up with NEW metal shavings. I guess I'd be afraid to trust it for long trips. If you're really stuck without a local source for a distributor, you're on borrowed time.
