replace the whole axle. the cv axle is about 120 bucks with a 50 dollar core return. so its like 60-70 bucks. installation should be around the same, 60-70.
once you had noticed the boot ripped, you couldve just gotten a new boot. once it starts ticking, get rid of it.

Does the axle need replacing when it ticks when your driving?.. my car ticks at around 4th gear...i've been trying to locate the problem..its either the cv boots/axle or my transmission.. any idea? tick speeds when gas pedal pressed down and slows down when i let off gas.

does it only happen in 4th? I would prolly be leaning
tranny probs if so.

If its your axles you would expect to hear clicking in
all gears when turning.

I had the ticking too. Before you go out and buy anything. Take out the Axle and the core, take off all the bearings annd clean the core and the bearings with degreaser. Than go through with a toothpick and a q tip, and clean out ALL of the residue. Make sure you use clean stuff when reassembling the axle. After cleaning everything, use tons of axle grease, and pack the bearings with it, and the core. If you do it yourself, it shouldnt cost too much, and its much cheaper than having buying the parts and having some else install them. Its an easy job. But try that first before you shell out tons of cash.
