Default cutting end of shift linkage

i searched some "shifter hits exhaust" threads but no one has said anything about what i think can be an option. my skunk2 dual bend shifter hits my rs-r exmag in all gears and all the time. the only part that hits the exhuast though is the back end of the bar (circled in this picture)

I figure i can just cut those two things off and it wont hit anymore.
If i do cut that off are there any adverse effects from doing so? I know everything has a reason for being on there in the first place but, ive gotta try somthing new. exhaust heat wrap worked for acouple weeks till it rubbed threw it and i cant keep doing that every couple of weeks. anyone have any experience or info about cutting that part of the linkage off? thanks!
