Default CUTTING THE CHASSIS!!??? NEED OPINIONS!!!!!!

i was wondering bout cuttin the chassis. i wanna to the right hand drive clip ( im not here to discuss how its a waste of money yada yada). im jus wondering if cuttin my car in hald than welding the clip. has it been done before. my mechanic says the reason people say its bad cause people have do it right thaats why its always probs. hes built chassis bottom up with his cars and never had probs. so hes saying with mne he can do it with wout a prob jus lots of labor with welding. he said whens hes done he like brand new and hell reenforce it with little roll cage in ride for support.

my mechanic has done a lot fo work for me over the years and a real good friend of my fathers. he does excellent work and i do trust him to cut and weld it....

i need some opinions. please!

Since you do not seem to want justified opinions on what you are about to do, good luck with the build. Post some pics when youre done.

Why do you want to cut and weld this chassis? What are you doing to the car?

It's been done countless times, RHD conversions aren't anything new. You have to drill out the spot welds and then weld the new firewall in where the stock one was welded.

nah i understand that, but my mechanic insisting on cuttin the chassis. instead of un hooking everything than welding than plug and play. he can jus weld. hes an excellent welder, and for him hes rather but and put the clip on and weld together than eveything should be in owkring order. jus if done correctly and where it was cut there is extra support, they car should be ok right?

Do whatever you want, but the firewall swap is going to be cheaper. You do realize you cant cut parts of the car off and just slap them back together. If you clip the car it NEEDS to be on a rack or at least measured numerous times to get everything straight before welding.

Its much easier and cheaper to do firewall swap. Less areas to destroy the OEM corrosion protection on, less areas to paint, less time to measure....less **** to expletive up in general!

i cant stand reading this post anymore. it seems like that you have already made up your mind on the cut and paste project by your magician mechanic. If so, why even bother asking for peoples opinion?

You only cut and weld if you absolutely have to. if your mechanic is telling you that it will all be like new after he welds it in, then so be it.

Do you understand its the front portion of your chassis it is you are trying to cut off? Dont cheap out on your conversion. Obviously you have enough money to go through with this. Do it the right way.

FYI, I would never let your guy work on my car. cutting the frame on an undamaged chasis to install a rhd conv is stupid.

I hope this helps
