Default ctr cams

i just picked up some ctr cams yesterday for 300 bucks. my b16 is preatty much stock. this is preatty much going to be my first mod besides my intake. i was going to get a header but i figures i could get the cams for the same price and they probably would make more hp than a header would so i got the cams instead of the header.
i'm going to have them installed tomorrow. i was wondering if i sould get some cam gears. would it help my cams a lot if i had some cam gears
how much faster should these cams make me? should i be able to keep up with gsr's now?
also what about my vtec cross over?
my vtec kicks in very early. it kicks in just above 4000. will that be a problem for the ctr cams?

you should get gears, the intake needs to be advanced and the exhaust prob pulled back. ive seen dynos anywhere from ~5-12hp gains. you should change the vtec crossover or else it will dip in power.

I mean itll be better yea...but to really get the power youll need h/e/im/gears etc...

You really dont need gears now...bc I assume youre not getting it tuned anytime soon at all.

The easiest thing you could do, is put on a Skunk2 mani and ITR ECU with the CTR cams.

Im not no DYNO expert but that low vtec point with those cams will not give you the performance you are looking for!! My suggestion is to bump it up to about 5400 till you get it tuned!! And dude why didnt you get cam gears???

my car picked up 21 whp in the midrange with the proper tuning using CTR cams. VTEC is set at 5300 rpm.

Does your vtec crossover just over 4k because of the ECU, or a vtec controller? If you don't have a controller, you're going to se a loss of power in the midrange, and it probably won't pick up until about 5800-6k. Might want to hold off on installing them until you get more parts to back them up. Cam gears, FPR, and vtec controller would be good parts to start with. Although you could get by with just the controller.

Then you should probably hold off on the cams, it's not going to run very smooth

I'd have to disagree. When dyno'ing a motor that's using stock injectors, an FPR can be used to bring up the fuel pressure, while using the VAFC to lean it out where it needs to be, in order to get a smooth power curve.
