Default crower cams

ive searched and searched and i still want more. im thinkin about crower 404's for my b18b that i eventually want to turbo. springs and retainers and cam gears too obviously. the overlap seems less than the "turbo" cams for the vtec engines so im wondering if this would be a wise investment. any feedback? my meager mods are listed below.

I'm not sure I can help with your question... I was wondering the same thing actualy...

But, I do have a question for you. Could you please let me know how you like your radius bars from z10? How did the kit affect your handling. I was thinking about getting them, but I was afraid I would compromise my handling, and I didn't feel it would be worth it if it only helped in a straight line. Can you let me know? Thanks a lot!

IF you are really serious about going turbo............then dont get the 404's...........the 403's might be OK for turbo but the 402's are specifically made for turbo.

plus you will be cursing yourself for getting the 404's because the lumpy idle will drive you crazy.....

well i got them on. now my neck is sore from spending all that time on my back. i didnt have alot of wheel hop to start with so for me to say that theres a big difference would be a lie. i can however do cleaner burnouts now. as far as handleing i found a quicker response from the wheel and it feels very stable. dont get me wrong you still feel bumps bad but the dont send you flying all over the road liek it used to. keep in mind though i have a stock b18b with a skunk2 itm and stock shocks/struts. its the kinda thing where ill notice a bigger differnce when ive done more work.

Well I'm glad to hear that you seem happy with it. I just got my 404's in today, so I am going to have to put some things on hold so that I can save up for the titanium retainers and dual valve springs... and installation since I am assuming that this is not a do-it-yourself thing to install. thanks for the post. Glad to hear you got it on their.

The Crower 404s are fine with boost. i jsut sold my 403s so i can get the 404s. I have installed a few sets for people and they work great if you rev it. If your boosting high and rev it higher than the stock limit then you will have gains all across the board. I see opinions everywhere but nobody runs it. If you look at the specs for other cam manufacturers they wil commonly have durations in the mid 260s.

So a turbo that kicks in at say 4000 would work good here then....I had always considered this. Because the 404's still arent nearly as big as some of the larger VTEC cams.

Do you think I could install the cams myself? I'm assuming you need only take off the valve cover, not the enire head. Correct? Also, I have AEM cam gears I am going to put on the 404's. Does anyone happen to know what degree they will perform best at? I'd hate to waste the money on a dyno if I don't need to. Thanks!

PS- Any idea on how much a P&P for an LS head costs? Can I run the cams AND gain power WITHOUT P&P my head? I've got a P&P intake manifold already. thanks

you can install the cams yourself. but it would be much easier to install the dual valve springs with the head off. i really hope you do not plan to run those cams without the valve springs.

I would not run those cams without springs and retainers. Also the reason that the cams dont seem as big as the vtec cams is becuase of the rocker arm ratio. The LS heads have a 1.75 while the vtecs have a 1.55. This will appear that the vtec cams have a larger lift than what they really do as compared to the LS. A larger rocker arm ratio will only affect lift and not duration.

I don't plan on putting the cams in until my springs and retainers come in and I can get the head P&P. I think I am going to have a shop do the install for me since I don't feel all that comfortable taking the head off (never done this before). Thanks for the replies to my questions...
