Cooling sys. problem
I bought my 88 Itegra with a cooling problem, it would heat up to"hot" at freeway speeds. First thing I did was notice the heater was bypassed..ok, no prob...then I went to replace the thermostat & found the existing one cut- away to allow freeflow....so I replaced it with an oem unit......this made the problem worse, it heated up quicker....the previous owner told me he just replaced the water pump so assumably its new....ok so far? so I replaced the radiator & fan switch with new ones....ran it & still heats up at idle....the bottom hose never gets warm!.....I even flushed the system out 2 times!! & still no flow thru the system is detected.......NOW someone tells me it could be a headgasket??? but how can a head gasket preclude a good flow? (there are several water passages thru a head gasket. even if one plugs up) so whats left & what am I missing here??....a blockage around the thermostat area??..I give up & want to exhaust all MY POSSIBILITIES before replacing the head gasket & water pump...any ideas guys?
Thanx, Dave.
Oh something else is weird.....the fans dont come on even at HOT....which is another indication that the engine heated water isnt reachinh the bottom of the radiator where ti fan switch is located......hmmmmmmmmm.
