First of all, is your car overheating? What makes you think there's a problem?
If you want to check if your thermostant is working, pull it off the car and attach it to a string. You will need to suspend it in a bucket of hot water. You will also need a therometer to measure the temp of the water. Once the water gets to (search) degrees, you should see the thermostant pop open. If it does, then it's in working condition. If it doesnt open, then obviously it's not gonna open when it's in your car.
The reason why I said search is because I cant remember what temperature the 'stant is supposed to open at. I would look for you but it's 5 o'clock and its time to go home!!

it's between 170-190 degrees F. i forget, but put a pot on the stove and 20 degrees isn't a biggy. either it opens or it doesn't, or it opens at like 230+ where you engine is eating itself for breakfast
