Default conversion illigal?

i was just looking over a bunch of jdm front conversion archived articles and came across a couple posts saying that the conversion was not legal due to the lack of some reinforcement bar and the headlights not being DOT legal. any info on this? Im plannin on doing the conversion and preferably wanted to have it street legal. any ways around it?

thanks in advance.

i doubt they're DOT legal considering they have no reason to get them DOT approved, but i haven't heard of anyone having legal problems

Here's a link that might help you out. Its about USDM Bumper Reinforcement.
Nice right up and I might go this route as well. Now only if I can find a kit
for a $1000.

DOT doesn't approve lights.

people hawking cheap blue lights say "DOT approved" to give them some legitimacy, but they're still illegal.

A way around this is swap an accord front end on the car. Looks almost the same and are legal to boot.

Anyone else notice the JDM front end looks a lot like the accord front end?

there shouldn't be anything illegal about it. the re-bar could possibly be an issue but shouldn't. the headlights shouldn't be a problem either.

I've seen it done. The JDM front end is illegal because the front lights don't have a amber reflector on the side and the bumper reinforcement doesn't meet the DOT 3-mph standards.

The Accord front end isn't as bling, but it will keep you legal.

yup, its illegal. the lights and bumper don't pass standard. This is a fact, not a opinion. Don't worry tho, should be just a fix it ticket... all those clear corners on the front of tegs are illegal in the same respect. you need to have an AMBER reflector on the corner lights... being all clear lenses with clear reflectors and a AMBER BULB still makes it illegal... but everybody and their mom seems to have that on their car and don't get harassed too often. It just give them a reason to tag you.
