looks great.

you dont want to drop below 140, and no variation more than 30 psi.

wow now that's being generous.. 140 is really low, and 30psi is a really huge huge variation.... stock gsr's should be at about 210, im not sure what LS's should be at, but there should not be more than 10 psi of variation..

yeah i realize that. I would rebuild much sooner than that but the Haynes manual says 140 psi is service limit.

notice... "service limit".... not "performance limit" a 140 psi engine would NOT be running anywhere even CLOSE to where it should be at

190 for a GSR is a lil low from what it should be. GSR's should be 213. Minimum of 135, and a maximum variation of 28.

Oh no, I wasn't saying it was bad at all. It's definately not as low as some tests I've seen. And for 150K it's pretty good. I was just saying that it's a little under what it should be, that's all.

A compression test means very little. Try a leakdown test, that will tell you much more than a compression test.

Why is there such a difference between the haynes and the helms figure for the gsr?
My helms manual says the nominal (new) compression in PSI for the GSR should be ~213 psi, the service limit is 135 and there should be less than 28psi variance.
I just did my compression test today and I got 232, 220, 232, 232 psi.
