compression questions...
i was thinking about raising my compression in my ls with maybe b16 pistons or type r pistons. i was also thinking about milling the head. my question is will i still pass smog with these compression upgrades??what are the pros and cons??thanx

you should pass smog no problems........the only down grade is that you have to fill up with premium gas all the time............go for B16 pistion. they fit right onto the LS rods. the ITR pistion will need a little machine work to get them to fit the LS rods.
on a side note i had ITR pistion in my LS with the head milled .040 and there was no clearence problems.......BUT i wouldnt recommend milling it that much to anyone though......that was a mistake........ .030 should be the MAX you should ever go.

milling the head is pretty cheap(like 30 bucks i think).what steps do i need to take when milling the head??all i know is i have to buy a new head gasket.
yeah, gas is like at a buck here now, so i fill up with 91 now(we no longer have 92 )

what you need to know is what type of pistons you want to use with that head so that you will have enough valve-to-pistion clearence. with both the B16 and ITR pistions you will be safe up to about .040 milling. but like i said before milling the head .040 is not the smartest thing to do.
once you mill the head you change the cam timing and there is less timing belt tension. so you really gotta be carfull with how much you take off.
take it from me i had my cylinder head milled .040 and the timing belt slipped about 10 teeth bending all the exhaust valves and breaking the exhaust camshaft into 3 peices.
i think most machine shops will tell you your are pretty safe up to .030 anything more than than you gotta really pay close attention to other engine components.
so.........good luck and be carful........

Non-VTEC did you have Crower cams? I remember seeing a pic of someones G3 Teg with an Exhaust cam broken in 3 places. Just wondering.......and why did you go .040mm??

i had the head milled .040 because i thought it was a good way to increase compession...........
