Default Clogged Cat? Maybe?

I bought a full stock exhaust off a guy, and i took the cat off, and tried to look through it. I could BEARLY see through it, like BEARLY!

Anyway, when i put it on, very little pressure was coming out the muffler. It ran fine, but the cat started to smoke and smell a lil funny. Never once got glowing red like others i see.

Today the car ran perfect, vtec pulled good, all that. Then it started to act weird, like seems like its taking forever for it to rev. It will hit vtec and all that but doesnt pull at all like it was before. And it seems kinda jerky when taking off. No CEL's, good oil level, ect.

Symptoms of a clogged cat?

Thanks,

It's barely.

If you hold the cat up to some light you should be able to see a small area where the light shines through. By your description, barely seeing through it indicates that you could, in fact, see through it; just very little. And that sounds normal.

Yeah sorry for my spelling.. VERY long morning already

Im not sure why its running the way it is though. Its blowing decently out the exhaust, just taking a min to rev up under load.

The ECU im running has deleted the o2 sensor, so thats out of the subject.

Seems sluggish..

Im most likely going to pull out the cat and give it a few good wackings to empty out the guts.

Free is always better

theres two ways i would confirm a "clogged" cat. 1) disconnect the cat from the rest of the exhaust system then run it.. any difference? 2) if you have an infra red temp gun, at normal operating temp, the cat should be about 100-150*F (pre cat) cooler than post cat. make sense?

Yeah, I had planned on pulling the cat off, and checking it out.

Run it open header to see if it changes anything on low end power.

As soon as it cranks up, I would know if it was the problem or not.

It runs HORRIBLE! Absolutly NO power, and feels as if the car is dragging.. More pedal I give it, the slower it seems to go.

Cat isnt glowing red, but the car is filled with a stinch.

hmm.. try looking into fuel delivery (fuel filter, pressure...). if ok, check ignition (fouled/wet plugs...)

Yeah. It cranks fine. It Slowly started to get worse.

When I crank the car up, Very little pressure comes out the exhaust.

It seems like it sputters from like 1k-2k RPM... I got to rev it to about 3500 to take off without bogging.

Im preeeeety sure that's the problem. It never did this until I put on this exhaust

keep in mind that catalytic converters are actually "doing work" when fully warmed up. when cold, its useless. typical honda cats run up to 350-400*F.

Well got a update..

Took the cat off, and looked super clean.. Cranked the car up and still sputtered.

Went into further diagnosis and started pulling the injector clips off the injectors. #1 and #2 cylinders hardly changed when I unplugged them. Pull the injectors out and the Injector Filters were FULL of gunk. .

Clean the filters, replaced, cranked up and purr'd like a kitten.

Problem solved!

Thanks for all input guys!
