i have a da teg and need to change the water pump and i did search but nothing good came up,so im just wanting to know how hard is it and maybe some step by step directions or a description of wat tools i will need to do this thanks...
I f you're changing the water pump, go ahead and change the timing belt. You have to take off the belt to get to the pump. As for directions, take off the crank pulley, you MUST have air tools for that, and all the plastic sheilds. Loosen the belt tensioner and take the belt off. There are 4-5 bolts holding the pump on. I can't tell you enough how hard the crank pulley is to take off. Someone elaborate if this is too vague.

MUST is such a strong word
I took mine off with a strap wrench and a breaker bar. No problem. Just make sure to get some sort of penetrating liquid like "PB blaster" and spray it on there a couple days in advance, and soak it 3x's a day for a few days, and you should be fine.
So, here's how to basically do it:
1) accessory belts off
2) crank pulley off after turning the engien to TDC (take out spark plugs)
3) plastic off
4) loosen tensioner
5) timing belt off
6) take off water pump (lots of water will come out, so drain the radiator if you want)
7) replace water pump (don't forget the gasket)
8) slip the timing belt on (intake, exhaust, crank, tensioner, water pump)
9) tighten tensioner
10) slip the crank pulley on and turn the engien over a few times (3-6 times) and make sure all of the timing marks are lined up. If they don't line up, I probably gave you the wrong order for putting the T-belt on
11) put plastic on
12) crank pulley back on
13) accessory belts on
14) go take care of all those cuts
If i forgot anything, sorry
Good luck with the replacement

its not that hard, just takes time. DL or buy a helms manual for the DA. after you re-install your t-belt [rec. new one] turn the engine over by hand acouple rotations and check you markings. dont want to have pistons meet valves.
Download the Helm manual and yer ready to go:

It's not too hard if yer mechanically inclined. Do all the accessory belts and the timing belts while your at it. Just make sure you get the timing belt on correctly. It's just alot of knuckle cracking because of the tight space on that side of the engine.

How would that be upgrading? I didn't think LS's had problems with water pumps or timing belts. I dunno how a GSRs would be better, I wouldn't want to risk it not fitting right.
