Changing Fuel Filter?????
I went to change my fuel filter last night, but could not get it loose. I got everything else done except I could not get the fuel filter loose from the fuel line coming out of the bottom. The metal hard line, I wasn't sure if I could turn the bolt or not. It looked like I could just twist the fuel filter off the bolt but I was afraid I would twist the metal fuel line. Anyone know a good way of getting the filter off the fuel line.
Use a wrench to hold the filter and one to turn the locknut. You could hold the filter with your hand and hold the lower nut with a wrench and twist it off, but it's my experience that they are on there pretty tight.
So it's a lock nut on the fuel metal line. So it's save to yank on that one with a wrench. They way it wasn't moving it looked like the nut on the line didn't move and you just twisted the fuel filter to get it off, but I'll try that.
any other suggestions?

There is a nut welded to the bottom of the fuel filter. Put one wrench there. Then get a flare nut wrench and put that on the flare nut thats on the fuel line. Loosen that way. It'll be a cinch!

make sure you use a flare nut wrench on that bottom fitting to keep from rounding off the fitting. It looks like a closed 6-sided box wrench w/ a small opening in the end to get it around the hard line. That way the wrench is bearing on 5 sides of the fitting instead of only 2 sides like a normal open wrench.

listen to reefer bob and patrick94GSR... get a wrench to hold the bottom of the filter and another wrench to turn the brake line flare nut.. don't try twisting the filter off.. you might twist/damage the hard lines that way... if you hold the filter (bottom nut) w/ a wrench and use another wrench to turn the flare nut on the line it should come off easily... I did mine w/ a regular open end wrench but I'm going to buy a flare nut set next time because it'd probably be a big headache to break the line or strip the nut..

What I did was loosen the fitting on the hardline while the filter was still bolted in place, I didn't have to hold it with any other wrenches.
I undid the top and bottom lines first.. I used a wrench to hold the filter just in case/as a precaution because I knew it would get expensive if I bent/broke the hard steel gas lines... after I undid the top and bottom.. I undid the bracket last.. the bracket helps hold the filter in place to the firewall making unbolting the top and bottom easier...
