Default Can't Shift into Second

i have a 94 civic hatch with a 01 ls swap(hyrdo tanny). when im driving and im in a higher gear than second i can't put it in second(no matter what i try). but from first to second it works every time.
for example if im in 4th and im pulling up to a stop light, the stop light is red and them turns green as im aproaching going about 10 mph. i can't put it in second to accelerate i have to put it in third and thats a pain in the ***. but the weird thing is if im going under 5mph it will let me put it in second. can anyone help me as to why this is happening?

When you're in a higher gear, the output half of the transmission is spinning faster than the input half of the transmission. It sounds to me like your syncros are trying too hard to match up the speeds. When you're upshifting, your RPM's tend to line up better making it easier to shift. Probably just transmission wear and tear over the miles. Have you tried rev matching?

Also, you might try adjusting your clutch pedal. It is a possibility that your clutch isn't disengaging all the way making it harder to shift (especially downshift).

Trust me i had this problem with my 95 LS. Your second gear synchro is out. Trust me, that is your problem. I am a realist and i don't beat around the bush....... time for a new trans or rebuild. Forget that i'm a new user, i'm not a new user to honda's, just this site.

This is sound advice. I'd start with checking your pedal adjustment(should be done ever 10k miles) and for leaks at the master or slave cylinder. If all this checks out, it's a synchro issue. How many miles are on the transmission? How many miles are on the clutch?
