The bolts holding the lock cylinder on have big metal tabs bent over them and are a bitch to get out. I'd just replace the actual lock. Also, are you sure it isnt the steering wheel lock?
Make sure its not the steering wheel lock. My key was getting stuck more and more until one day I almost snapped the key head right off I was turning it so hard. Anyway its not too hard to replace. Take off the plastic covers, a couple bolts drop the column down, drill out the old bolt heads on the clamp, and unplug some stuff.
a lot of times the key is just inserted too far. by wrenching on it in frustration you are putting way too much force on the key. slide it out of the lock by 1 or 2 millimeters and try turning it gently. every time my key doesn't turn it is simply too deep in the lock.
what do you folks mean by "steering lock"? my steering wheel/tires are straight... how do i "replace the lock" only? i want to install an remote starter if all else fails.
