Cams?????
I'm going to buy some cams and can gears but too many products out there. I was thinking either skunk2s or crower street/strip. anyone know which is better or should i go toda?
Depends what you want to do in the future... are you looking at f/i? if so stick with the stock ones.. if you want wicked strip cams get the crower 403's.. What other mods have you done and what do you have planned?

yes and you also have a VTEC engine, there isnt too much in the way of options for us LS guys and some of the options dont yeild that much if any of a usable gain.
crower is the only company that makes cams for the LS, i think.... i heard that the 403's are great for the street and 404's with a mild p&p do wonders, but that's a bit too rough of an idle for me.
i don't think you ever have to raise the idle... it's very possible i'm wrong though. i was just talkin about the 404's make the car idle real rough (like if youhave poly engine mounts, imagine that times 2 is what i've been told). the 403's are supposed to be very daily driver friendly i think
just read that the 403's require different springs and retainers. Also good to a higher RPm then our stock LS computers will go. What is the deal with the 403's. As opposed to the 402's which appear to be drop in cams with no change to springs.

hummm, i didn't realize that... i thought the 403 were drop in and the 404's need stuff done... what kind of gains can you get from the 402's? how much do they cost?
No actual experience with the 403's, but our LS's don't have very stiff valve springs, if you get a more aggressive cam lobe (higher lift/duration than stock), your stock LS springs just might not spring as well as you think,
you might get some valve float and hit your pistons at TDC....*KABLOOIE*
If you want to upgrade to 403's without getting new springs/retainers... .DON'T DO IT....
It's not really just a bolt in for the LS.....
I'm pretty sure if you call crower they'll help you out..... I hope...

That Engine was dyno'd and had nearly 300hp to the wheels N/A...
Who ever told you this must have been blowing a shitload of smoke up your ***...
Because I haven't seen or heard of any B series Motor from JUN Japan/USA that has put more than 249ps to the wheels and the motor that did that much power was a 2034cc motor..
You might want to have a talk with some of these people....300 HP to the wheels...N/A....highly unlikely..may be 250ish.
I have Crower 403's in my 97 LS. I don't have their valve springs and retainers. I called them and they said they were recommended, but not needed unless you are going above stock redline. I believe they claim power up to 8500rpm.
In addition, I was also broke as hell, and wasn't about to dish out another ~$350 or so for them. I've had them in for a few months and have been driving quite hard, no problems. ::knocks on wood::
Oh, and just in case any of you are interested, these cams aren't good for turbo as they give you about 11 degrees of overlap which is a bit too much for forced induction. I'll probably be going back to stock when I get my Drag Gen III put in next week. We'll see.....depends on how lazy I am.
