Breather
Well I ordered an intake and they threw in a free breather. I have a stock gs, would there be any point to add the breather or is that just to help with high compression motors?
Don't hook the breather to a vacuum line, that would cause a massive vacuum leak. They are typically used on the large port coming off the valve cover near the oil cap, but I wouldn't advise using it. Keep your crankcase ventilation system closed, as by design.
I caint even count how many times I have comented on breather valves. Search search search. Dont use it. Get a decent intake or use a catch can. Breather valves are a no no. If I wanst drunnk I would find the link. Peace.
Breathers replace the stock PCV system that would normally plug into your stock intake chamber located on the valve cover... blow by isnt something you wanna have dumping back into your intake system. Its used to burn nasty oily air that cant just be dumped onto the street like olden days.
How would a filter breather prevent a vacuum leak? Never mind, no a breather doesnt cause any sort of vacuum leak for the term vacuum leak refers to the loss of vacuum from a source after the throttle plate such as the intake manifold, in no way is that related to the valve cover.
An oil catch can is only necessary for high output motors like a turbocharged engine that would create more crank case pressure. The point is to catch the oil that can be transferred through the pcv before reentering the intake, if you so choose.
Use the filter for now, and upgrade to a catch can later when you go for boost

ok my friend tony best described this to me.
WOULD YOU BREATHE YOUR OWN FARTS?
when you connect the pcv off of the vc to the intake your basically making your motor breathe in its own farts. oil catchcan is the best way to do this.
i just run the line down to the ground and plug up the nipple on my aem intake

Well i put it on and i just plugged the old vaccume lines into a small peace of tubing that came with the intake that, in turn, plugs into the intake. It runs like a champ so far so i think i did it right.

No you did, its just that really you dont wanna be plugging that bad, hot, dirty air back into your combustion chamber but if your just looking for it to run right then good work.
