Default Brake Problem

I'm having issues with my brakes on my 1gen Integra LS. The pedal feels spongy, and the brakes barely work. I checked all the obvious stuff, leaky lines, low fluid, etc. and I couldn't find anything wrong. Theres a mechanic in our family that seems to think it could be the brake master cylinder. But I noticed sitting in the garage that when the pedal is pushed down, the idle changes, and a hissing sound can be heard. Almost like a vacuum leak or something. I'd appreciate any opinions on what it could be.

TIA

Oh ok. Yeah I know hes not trying to rip me off, hes in my family, but I think his work can be somewhat..how should I say this..half assed at times, and I just wanted a second opinion before I go get a new master cylinder and put it in tomorrow.

Thanks man

oh well he could have been more specific.

btw, I got the master cylinder today. $61 at advance autoparts . Except I get a $23 core charge back if I bring the old one back, apparently they remanufacture them. Anyway, I'm installing it tomorrow.

$61 is not a lot to pay to keep your car from crashing due to brake failure.

BTW, did the new MC solve your problems?
