bouncing tach?
my friend has a gsr and we can't figure out why his tach bounces around. he tried changing the entire gauge cluster with another gsr and didn't help. just put in an autometer tach and it does the same thing? thanks for the help.
what do you mean the idle might be messed up. it bounces as he is driving. like going through the gears instead of steadily going up it bounces all over the place and so i has no idea when he is about to red line?
then check for a
vacuum leak
Leaking EGR valve
Leaking head gasket
Timing belt or pulleys worn
Camshaft lobes worn
Fuel Pump not delivering enough fuel
Or air filter clogged.
If you have touched or messed w/any of these or didn't do the maintenace required on them then that might be the problem.

Many times a bouncing tach is caused by a poor connection at the igniter. It is common for people to replace the igniter without tightening the igniter connectors. I always pinch them with a pair of needle nosed pliers before installation. That is where I would look first. Next I would check all connections between the igniter and tach. Some Honda's with external coils feed the tach from the coil- V6's are notorious for bouncing tachs caused by a bad/failing coil.
sorry, but bare with my stupidity....ignitor? what/ where is that at? i don't think he has messed with anything like that. changed the plug wires but thats about it when it comes to the electronics part. says it is running really lean? i have yet to look into it. never get a chance to mess with it while i am at work. thanks for the help.

I had the same problem with my LS motor. We replaced the entire distributer and the problem went away. I could have just replaced the ignitor but yard had them for like $200 with a lifetime warranty.
