Alternative could be a trailer hitch. There are various attachments for racks to plug into the receiver of the hitch, when you want to use, and then the roof is free. Sorry for the post if you want roof only.

i am actually gonna carry bikes i love rideing bicycle almost as much a driving my car an unfortunate side effect from looseing my licsense for a year
