b20 help
Hey guys, now i know there are plenty of threads of this, and i apologize for posting another one
, but i want my own questions and tips answered, or better yet, a guide and run through of what i need to do.
Now i have a 1995 Integra DB7, with a B18b1. ive only had it for a month or so, repairing things here and there. About the end of the month, my Motor blew.
IT was caused by a headgasket and i found out that the head needed to be resurfaced, causing a lost of oil.
okay theres the history of it.
Ive ended up ordering a 2000 B20b motor, and i was looking up on how to put this swap together and have it run good. (im looking for reliable car, not performance)
Now my questions.
- What do i need to swap from my b18 to my b20.
- the b20 is obd2, and ive heard that its just plug and play for my harness (obd1) - idk how, but they just say that. = explain?
- Do i need to change the pulley, sensors, oil / water pump? or could i just put the motor in as is without switching parts.
- my (FIT) valve broke on my thottle body, and i was hoping if the b20's will work. or if i had to switch the whole throttle body?
-And my A/c and Power steering. can i just use my LS ones, and it will work just fine?
- LS ecu okay?
Haha.

sorry for all the questions, but i just want to be forsure on what i really need, and what i got to do. If you guys would take the time to discuss it with me, id be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

it's basically a straight long block swap. with transfer of a few parts.
use your:
-distributor
-intake manifold and fuel rail
-possibly your alternator (look at the b20 plug and see if it will accept your connector, i think it will anyways)
-AC compressor. just flip it off to the side without disconnecting the lines, that way you won't need to discharge/recharge
-power steering pump. again, flip off to side without disconnecting
-you'll have to look at the AC and PS brackets. see if they differ, because i'm not sure
-possibly the engine mounts
i think that's about it. i've only done the swap on my non obd DA, so i can't tell you for sure about the AC and PS bracketry, as they do differ between DA and DC. same with the engine mounts.
for non obd, you'd usually just buy an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and ramp it up to 50psi. but apparently, the dohc zc non obd ecm works best for the swap. besides the point though. since you're obd1, use your ecm and get a good b20b tune made up

and since you're doing the swap anyways, try and find either a b20z or jdm high compression b20b, or b20b with p8r head.
just try not to get a b20b4, or low comp b20b. the low comp b20b will be recognizable by the absence of the knock sensor and p75 cast head.
personally, i would go for the high comp b20b with p8r head. it won't have a knock sensor regardless of high or low comp, so the only way to really know would be to peer down the spark plug hole with a boroscope. if you see PHK cast in the piston head, it's the high comp. P3F=low comp.
either way though, i'd still go with the p8r equipped b20b..personally

alright, that sounds pretty straight forward and understandable. Thanks alot for the help! Ill post up if I run Into anymore problems . Aha,
If anyone want to add on please do.
And its the 2000 motor, I've searched up that those are the higher compression motor so lucky me.
my motor is coming in Tuesday, so wish me luck! Ill be needing jt.

yea, if it's the usdm b20z, it's high comp.
just make sure you do a valve adjustment once you get it running and everything checks out ok.
apparently, b20z's like to burn exhaust valves if adjustments aren't made somewhat frequently

OK. I also have some questions of my own for a b20 swap. I know very little about swapping motors.
I would like to know what I would need to buy so I can complete the swap. He has a stock d16y7 96 civic hatchback. I taken out the d16 myself and will be ordering the b20z this week.
what type of wire harness do i need?
can i use my ac lines?
many more questions but I really would like to know what I would need just to get it to run.
Thanks.

^^TBH, i'm not 100% sure on what all is needed to swap into that chassis.
you will need a b series hydro transmission though. i believe some of the engine mounting differs, and you need at least some mounts off of an si. you'd have to look at the AC pump and line configuration on the b20z. see if it's compatible. you may be able to just use your existing AC compressor with the b20z bracket. it's an obd2b motor going in an ob2a car, so you'll need to re-pin the b20z distributor since it will have a single plug while yours has 2. or buy a distributor conversion harness for like 20$
that should be it for wiring. you will need a b series 1.8 exhaust manifold and b18b intake mani. you will either need an obd2 p75 ecu, or have your existing ecu reflashed.
that's about all i can say personally. although i'm sure you can much better detail with a quick search on this very site even. probably in the 96-00 civic forum
edit: here ya go. full parts list for this exact swap:
