Default b18a with 403s VS. a b16

would the odds be on the b18a if both motors have i/h/e but the b18a has 403s also. how much of a difference would there be betwen both motors.

torque would be substantially higher in the b18, and the addition of cams will almost even out the hp, so id say go with the b18

I have a b18b with crower 403's and even with my ls tranny i still easily pull my friends b16 si. Now if you mated thaat b18a with a b16/gsr tranny on top of the cams you will be in business

No i am actually running on the stock springs and retainers, some say to upgrade and some say you dont have to if you keep stock redline. I have stock redline and i have had no problem for about 10k miles so far. Idle was a bitch at first but i played with it for a bit and got it to idle ok, just a bit lumpy. Be sure that if you get cam gears that they are set at 0,0 if you want it to idle at all before tuning.

I have 403's (stock valvetrain) and i have the skunk2 intake manifold. I am considering removing the skunk2 mani and selling it b/c i miss the torque of the stock manifold. Anybody else run into this problem?

My idle is kinda off it drops really low sometimes and other times its fine LOL. I adjusted the idle but it still drops low sometimes. Im gonna look at it more when i get the time. But basically no problems and it dosent kill, i drive it everyday. It sounds good too.

so would you say this is just your OWN problem with your car? cause i would think this doesnt happen to most of the people who use the 403s. or correct me if im wrong. and also does it usually idle at 1000rpm like what the crower website says ?

Yea, you're supposed to set idle at 1000 since the cams are a lot lumpier than stock. They idle ok, though even at 750, just drops down to almost choking sometimes.

ya my 403's idle will drop real low form time to time but its definitely tolerable. Hey DANZIVER how did the skunk manifold perform with the cams besides the torque loss (top end wise?)

the skunk2 mani should give you better mid to top range power on an N/A LS. on my Turbo'd LS, the skunk2 gives me power throughout the entire power band

On top end it pulls like a beast. It makes the b18b very different powerband wise.
