Default b16 trans worth it

ive heard for just a bolt on LS , a b16 transmission is one of the best bang for your bucks mods. Is this true ? the transmission is buying is a XSI J1 transmission. How much will this transmission lower my 1/4 time? I need a transmission anyway because mine is shot , is shifts perfectly and everything but makes a horrible grinding noise when the clutch is Disengaged , its something internal. Im buying this tommorow.

Also this is going into a 92 teg with a fully rebuilt JDM b18a1 that i just rebuilt , maybe 500 miles on it. Will the 140hp b18 mated with the b16 transmission smoke a DA integra with a b16 with preety much the same mods off the line and through most of the 1/4? if not all of it ?

whether or not it "smokes a b16 DA" is questionable... lots of arguments there.

are you sure you have an internal trans failure and not a pilot/t.o. failure? make sure you aren't screwing yourself out of money here.

b16 trans on an LS is alright... it'll still be a slow turd. it'll take you from a possible high 15 to a mid to high 15. (thats perfect conditions... best run ever sort of deal).

the problem w/ b16 trans on an ls is: highway travel. the S1/J1 turns about 4000rpm in 5th gear running 65mph. an LS isn't a very balanced motor. this stresses things harmonics wise and the motor may wear out ealier. theres no guarantees there.

either way, good luck with it all

yea very sure it isnt the throw out bearing , something internally is screwed up. I ran 15.6 with the old motor that had 181k miles and a aem short ram with a DC stainless header. I now have a brand new motor basically , fully rebuilt , so i would hope with a new motor , a b16 trans , and a i/h 15.0 would be possible

your time is what i would expect after i add the tranny. im not expecting this thing to be fast by any means , but if it ran a 15.6 with a 181k mile tired motor and messed up tranny , and i now have a brand new motor and im putting a J1 tranny on it which has the same gearing as the ITR tranny, with i/h, i would hope i could get a 15.0 .

j1's dont have the same gearing as an ITR trans.

they have similar 1st, 2nd, 3rd... way shorter 4th and 5th, with a 4.4 final.

depends on which ITR trans you're talking about, but a USDM ITR trans and/or CTR trans has a 4.4 final and the exact same gear ratios as a USDM b16 (del sol or EM1) tranny. they are not the same gears though, different shaft sizes in type r tranny's.

s1/j1 XSI transmissions have the shortest 4th and 5th gears in b-series trans. the only thing that'd compare is a JDM ITR w/ 4.785 final (because ratio at the wheels would be similar).

Do you know what your talking about ? integra XSI trans is the EXACT same gearing as a USDM S80 trans.

J1 tranny gearing
S1/J1 JDM B16A X-Si 3.230 2.105 1.458 1.107 0.848 3.000 4.400

S80 W/LSD (type-r tranny)
S80 w/LSD USDM B18C5 3.230 2.105 1.458 1.107 0.848 3.000 4.400
