Default Automatic transmission question...

Well I've been looking for a decent beater car for a little while now for my girl to bomb around in and came across a DB1 4 door integra automatic. She's not very good with driving standard so I thought "great". It's just one of the few issues with the car is that if the vehicle is put into "D" from initial start then it starts off in 4th gear and obviously doesnt really want to get out of it's own way lol.

So my question would be if anybody knew what the source of this problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance..

Nick.

Ok, when you get into the car and start it up. You go from park to drive with an automatic. Well when you put the car into "D" for drive as opposed to say d1-d2-d3 it starts off in high gear. But if you manually shift the automatic from d1-d2-d3 then it will go through the gears just fine. I'm not sure what could create that problem?

So the problem is it doesn't downshift on it's own, right? Even when you stomp on the gas it doesn't shift down?

He's saying the problem is that it doesn't start off in first get when it's in Drive like it should.

D1, D2, D3, and D should only determine the highest gear it can go. In D it should start in 1st gear and go all the way up through 4th.

Does it start off in first if you put it in D2 or D3?

It shouldn't start in first if it is in 2, only if it is in D3 or D4, depending on how fast, you hit the gas or floor it. 1 and 2 are the snow gears so the car never shifts out of them unless you do...

If you put the car into "D" then for some reason it starts out in 4th gear or O/D and does not downshift into 1st.

However if you manually shift it up through the gears then it goes through them just fine.

I'm sure it has something to do with the solenoids in the transmission.

See that's what I was thinking. There's gotta be something causeing this that's simple. I mean the car only has 107k origional miles on it so I know it's not a bad tranny.

Hmm...that's possibly as well. Only the owner says that when he drives the car it goes into gears very smoothly with no jerks. I guess I will have to bounce this off of my Honda-Guru tomorrow as well and see if he's ever heard/seen this issue as well.

Thank you soo far for your help guys.
