I am just curious as to what its like when a auto tranny is going bad. what are the signs etc.

 

your car will stall sometimes, car won't move (obviously), etc.

Here's an example from my Taurus SHO. When your on a hill, say at a light, and you let off the brake, it'll roll backwards... like the gear isn't catching. Don't know if that's true w/ Honda auto trannies. I can also redline a gear and keep it stuck there for a good 4 seconds before the next gear grabs then it lurches forward. Basically like a person who can't drive a 5spd worth ****.

 

That happened to my auto tranny (97 LS) before I swapped in a 5-speed. It would shift very late, and when it did, it would be a harsh shift. The car would lurch.....it would sometimes chirp 2nd gear! Heehee.....auto's chirping gears....
