Default Automatic Integra Performance

I just installed a JVT header Saturday morning. Before that i already had an aftermarket exhaust, and a CAI.

The power band before seemed top be more top end, towards the redline. Now it seems to have lowered since i put the header on. Is this normal. In some ways now the car seems a little bit more sluggish.

Also is it possible to tune an auto?

Heres a pic of the header after installation

your header may be too large for your application. im not saying there is anything wrong with it, but the experience you are having is normal. the velocity of air escaping the cylider head is far greater than the power you would typically want to create when running a race exhaust system.

yes, it is possible to tune an automatic, but you have no modifications that would require you to tune yet.

Ok cool.

So is the air thats escaping from the head moving too fast?
Or maybe the cat or exhaust system is not free flowing enough?

keep in mind that stock honda motors are designed for the exhaust they are produced with, the stock exhaust system you previously had was fine. if honda thought it was practical to install oversized tubing for your motor they would have done it. also keep in mind, an aftermarket full exhaust set up will give you very minimal gains in hp.

your motor is going to breathe better with your modifications, but how it utilizes the air is dependent on the more important modifications you make, such as aftermarket cams, cam gears, performance valvetrain, intake manifold, fuel regulation, and a good tune.

Oh ok. I get you.

So which kind of modifications can i make to an automatic that will better enhance the flow of the air and make it smoother at high & low RPM's. I think that the stock headers flow was smoother but not a free flowing. Thats what it feels like now.

And also how can i tune my automatic? I'm curious to know how and whats the best way to tune. Is a chipped tune any good?

the problem with the auto is that you cant raise the redline, it would be much more ideal somewhere in the area of 7500rpm. Based on all the dyno charts, and performance #'s ive read over the past few months for mine, every time you try to modifiy the engine somehow, it raises the power band further into the 7k-8k range. Headers do absolutely nothing for these cars unless they are supercharged. In fact you loose alot of low end torque with headers. Even the most well designed headers that ive seen dynos on, had gains of 4hp at the top end, and lost power at the low end. The engine just flat out doesnt produce enough exhaust gas that a header would help loosen up the flow with.

As far as i know about tuning, it seems that only piggy back systems are available, air/fuel controllers, FMU, engine managment, things like that. The trans computer and the ecu are two seperate devices, the trans computer is by your drivers side kick panel and the ecu is on your passenger side kick panel.

I do not remember reading what year car he has but don't forget that is he has a 90-93 the ecu will be underneath his passenger side carpet.

at this time that is what i am looking in to I have hard alot of good things about s-afc on other cars have that been used that much on hondas and with what type of number. I do not much know i am still reading on this. also u need to keep in mind what type of hp will your auto hold to.

i understand completely, what seems to be not understood is that people want their auto to drive/perform like a manual and that will never be the case. Given the questions by the OP it seems like this is what he was getting at IMO. But hey anyone who wants to build an auto go for it, and have fun.
